A wire feed welder works by automatically feeding a spool of wire through a welding gun, where it acts as both the electrode and filler material. As the wire contacts the metal workpiece, an electric arc is created, melting both the wire and the base metal to form a weld. Shielding gas or flux is often used to protect the weld from contamination.
