To set an acetylene torch for cutting, open the oxygen and acetylene cylinder valves, then adjust the regulators to about 20–40 psi for oxygen and 5–10 psi for acetylene, depending on the torch and tip size. Light the torch with acetylene first, then slowly add oxygen to achieve a neutral flame with a well-defined inner cone. Finally, open the cutting oxygen lever to check for a strong, steady cutting flame.
