A cutting torch works by using a flame, usually fueled by a mixture of oxygen and a fuel gas like acetylene, to heat metal to its ignition temperature. Once the metal is hot enough, a jet of pure oxygen is directed onto the metal, causing it to oxidize rapidly and blow away, creating a cut.
