When using a MIG gun, you generally "push" the gun, meaning you angle it in the direction you want the weld to go. Pushing produces a flatter, wider bead and less penetration, while "pulling" (dragging) gives deeper penetration and a narrower bead. The push technique is most commonly recommended for MIG welding.
