Pipeliner Storage Boxes

Frequently Asked Questions

What do pipeliner storage boxes hold and why are they different from a regular toolbox?
Pipeliner storage boxes are purpose-built to carry pipeline welding consumables — electrode cans, rod ovens, liner and drive roll sets, striker plates, and related gear — on the job site or in a truck. Unlike a generic toolbox, they're sized to fit standard 10 lb and 50 lb electrode cans, designed to ride securely in a truck bed or on a welding rig, and built from heavy-gauge steel to resist the abuse of field work. With 8 products in this collection, you'll find a range of sizes and mounting styles.
Can a pipeliner storage box keep electrodes dry in the field?
Standard steel storage boxes slow moisture pickup but are not heated, so they do not substitute for a rod oven. For moisture-sensitive low-hydrogen electrodes (E7018, E8018, E9018 and similar), electrodes should be stored in a heated rod oven (like Lincoln's HydroGuard® series, 115V or 230V, K2939/K2942/K5182) and removed only for immediate use. Storage boxes are appropriate for holding factory-sealed cans until they're opened, and for transporting already-conditioned electrodes in a field quiver during the shift.
How do pipeliner storage boxes mount on a welding rig truck?
Most pipeliner storage boxes have pre-drilled mounting tabs or bolt-through mounting plates designed to anchor to a truck bed, deck plate, or welding rig body. Some use a strap-and-pin receiver system that allows the box to be quickly removed and carried to the work site. When mounting, ensure the box is secured against sliding during transport — loose heavy boxes on a moving rig are a safety hazard. Check that the mounting hardware matches your rig's existing mounting track or drill pattern.
What size electrode cans fit in a standard pipeliner storage box?
Most pipeliner storage boxes are sized to accept standard 10 lb and 50 lb electrode cans (the Lincoln Easy Open Can format), as well as coiled wire spools. Typical internal dimensions accommodate cans up to about 6 in diameter and 14 in length. Before ordering, cross-reference the box's internal dimensions against the specific electrode packaging you're using, as some specialty cans (such as quad-pack or bulk pails) have non-standard dimensions.
