The Lincoln POWER MIG 220 AC/DC (K5379-1) is Lincoln Electric's most versatile compact multi-process welder — a single 51-pound machine that delivers MIG, Flux-Cored, Stick, DC TIG, and AC TIG on aluminum from a standard 120 V or 230 V household outlet. It is the only machine in Lincoln's portable lineup that includes both AC and DC TIG output, full spool gun circuitry for aluminum MIG, and Ready.Set.Weld® preset weld parameters — removing the guesswork for fabricators who switch processes frequently.
- AC/DC TIG — aluminum TIG welding without a separate machine. The K5379-1 produces AC TIG output with adjustable AC frequency (20–100 Hz) and AC balance control — the features required for aluminum TIG. Most multi-process welders at this price point deliver DC TIG only. The 220 AC/DC handles 4043 and 5356 aluminum filler rod, titanium, and stainless with equal precision. On 230 V, the AC TIG range reaches 210 A, covering 1/4" and thicker aluminum plate.
- Built-in spool gun circuitry for aluminum MIG. The POWER MIG 220 AC/DC includes dedicated spool gun circuitry compatible with the Lincoln Magnum PRO 100SG and 150SG spool guns (sold separately). Aluminum MIG with a spool gun eliminates the wire feeding issues common to push-pull setups on thin-wall 5052 and 6061 aluminum sheet, boat hulls, and automotive panels.
- 230 A MIG output on 230 V with 100% duty cycle at 120 A. On 230 V input, MIG output reaches 230 A — enough for 1/4" mild steel and structural fillet welds. At 120 A on 230 V, duty cycle is 100%. On 120 V input, 100% duty cycle is maintained at 75 A MIG. Production welding continues uninterrupted for most fabrication and light industrial work without thermal shutdowns.
- Ready.Set.Weld® material/thickness presets. Select material type and thickness from the front panel — the machine auto-sets voltage and wire feed speed. Reduces setup time for shops that switch between mild steel, stainless, and aluminum frequently. ArcFX® Technology provides an optimized welding arc for each process at the selected parameters.
- Memory program storage for repeat jobs. Save up to 10 welding programs (voltage, wire feed speed, process) to named memory slots. Restore any program instantly at the front panel. Useful for production environments where the same joint is welded repeatedly across multiple material gauges and positions.
- Dual voltage — 120 V / 230 V, no rewiring. A rear-panel voltage selector switches between 120 V and 230 V input without opening the machine. One machine services 120 V shop circuits and 230 V dedicated welding outlets. Particularly useful for mobile fabricators, auto body shops, and service techs who work across multiple facilities.
- Includes TIG torch, MIG gun, and drive rolls — ready to weld out of the box. The K5379-1 includes a Magnum PRO 175L MIG gun (10 ft), a Caliber 17 Series 150 A TIG torch with flexible head (10 ft), work cable, electrode holder, and multiple drive roll sets for .025"–.045" solid and .030"–.045" flux-cored wire. No additional equipment required to start MIG, Stick, or TIG welding.
- 3-year Lincoln Electric warranty on new units. Full factory warranty on the K5379-1 power source.

The POWER MIG 220 AC/DC's ability to handle MIG, Flux-Cored, Stick, and AC/DC TIG from a single portable 51-pound machine makes it the go-to choice for mixed-process shops and field welders:
- Automotive bodywork and restoration. The .025"–.030" wire capability, dual-voltage input, and 230 A maximum MIG output on 230 V cover the full range of automotive sheet metal repair — from 22-gauge door skins and quarter panels (.025" ER70S-6 at 20–45 A) through full frame repair and frame connector welding (.035" at 120–160 A). The AC TIG function handles thin-wall stainless exhaust and titanium components without a separate TIG machine in the shop.
- Light fabrication and prototyping. For small fabrication shops building brackets, jigs, furniture, trailers, and enclosures in mild steel and stainless, the Ready.Set.Weld® presets eliminate parameter guesswork between jobs. The 10-program memory lets fabricators save settings for each recurring part — switch from 14-gauge steel to 3/16" structural without re-dialing parameters.
- Structural steel welding — light to medium. On 230 V, the POWER MIG 220 AC/DC delivers 230 A MIG output with .035" ER70S-6, covering AWS D1.1 structural fillet welds on 1/4" and 5/16" mild steel. For outdoor structural applications, the flux-cored FCAW capability with Lincoln Innershield NR-211-MP eliminates the need for shielding gas — essential for tack welding, site repairs, and windy conditions where gas coverage is unreliable.
- Sheet metal and HVAC. The dual-voltage design means the K5379-1 runs on either a 120 V shop outlet or a 230 V dedicated circuit — critical for HVAC installation and sheet metal ductwork where available power varies by job site. At 120 V, 20–75 A MIG handles 24–18 gauge galvanized steel with ER70S-6 .025". At 230 V, heavier gauge duct-work, flanges, and supports are within range.
- Aluminum MIG and TIG — marine, aerospace, and motorsports. The built-in spool gun circuitry and AC TIG capability make the 220 AC/DC unusually capable for a machine at this price and weight. Aluminum MIG with a Magnum PRO 100SG spool gun handles .035"–3/64" 5356 wire on 1/8"–1/4" 6061 plate — boat hull tack-ups, hardtop frames, motorcycle sub-frames, and aerospace maintenance brackets. AC TIG at 20–210 A handles precision welds on thin aluminum extrusions, heat exchangers, and aircraft fittings where MIG spatter is unacceptable.
On 230 V input, the welding output voltage range is approximately 15–28 V in MIG mode, which corresponds to the 20–230 A output range. The machine uses constant voltage (CV) mode for MIG and flux-cored, and constant current (CC) mode for Stick and TIG. Welding voltage is continuously adjustable via the front-panel voltage knob with digital readout. Per the Lincoln Electric product page, rated MIG output on 230 V is 230 A / 25.5 V at 15% duty cycle, and 120 A / 20.0 V at 100% duty cycle.
The K5379-1 feeds .025"–.035" solid wire (ER70S-6, ER308L, ER4043, ER5356) and .030"–.045" flux-cored wire through the integrated drive. Wire feed speed range is 79–512 IPM (2.0–13.0 m/min). For aluminum MIG, the optional Magnum PRO 100SG or 150SG spool gun handles ER4043 and ER5356 .035" and 3/64" aluminum wire — the integrated wire drive is not recommended for pushing aluminum wire over 10 ft gun lengths without a spool gun.
Single-phase only — the K5379-1 requires 120 V / 1-phase / 60 Hz or 230 V / 1-phase / 60 Hz input. It is not compatible with three-phase power. For production environments requiring three-phase input and higher continuous output, see the Lincoln Idealarc CV-400 (K1346-13) which operates on 230/460 V three-phase.
At maximum MIG output on 230 V (230 A / 25.5 V), duty cycle is 15%. At 120 A / 20.0 V on 230 V, duty cycle is 100%. In practical production MIG welding on 1/8"–3/16" steel at 150–180 A, most operators weld well within the 100% continuous range. The 15% duty cycle at 230 A reflects the machine's capacity ceiling for short high-amperage burst welds on thicker material — not typical continuous production output.
Yes — the K5379-1 has built-in spool gun circuitry and includes a spool gun adapter. Compatible spool guns are the Lincoln Magnum PRO 100SG (100 A, 1 lb spool) and Magnum PRO 150SG (150 A, 1 lb spool), both sold separately. Spool gun-ready circuitry detects the spool gun connection and automatically adjusts wire feed control to the gun-mounted trigger and wire speed potentiometer. Aluminum MIG with a spool gun delivers cleaner welds on ER4043 and ER5356 wire than push-style feeding through a standard liner over distances beyond 6 ft.
