MK Products Barrels

Frequently Asked Questions

What are MK Products gun barrels, and how are they different from a complete welding gun?
MK Products barrels (goosenecks) are the front end of the welding gun — the curved metal tube that carries current, positions the contact tip, and supports the nozzle. They are sold separately so you can replace just the worn or damaged section of a Python gun without replacing the entire cable assembly. MK Products offers both air-cooled goosenecks (KP6047-1, 60° angle) and water-cooled goosenecks (KP6048-1) to match the gun configuration in service.
What gooseneck angle should I choose for my application?
The standard 60° gooseneck provides good visibility and is the most common angle for general flat and horizontal MIG welding. If you need access to tight corners or vertical-up welds, a more aggressive angle (45° or 22°) reduces obstruction. MK Products barrels are designed to be swapped on the Python gun body, so you can stock multiple angles and change them without overhauling the gun.
How do I know when a barrel needs to be replaced?
Replace the barrel when you see visible cracking or burning of the insulation, when the gooseneck is bent beyond shape from heat or mechanical impact, or when the threaded section at the contact tip end is damaged and tips no longer seat straight. A distorted barrel causes the contact tip to misalign inside the nozzle, leading to uneven gas distribution and erratic arc. Physical damage that cannot be corrected by straightening is the primary replacement trigger.
Are MK Products barrels compatible with Lincoln Python guns sold separately?
Yes — MK Products is a Lincoln Electric brand, and the Python gun system (K6042–K6045) is designed with field-replaceable barrel components. The KP6047-1 air-cooled and KP6048-1 water-cooled goosenecks are listed alongside the Python guns in Lincoln's catalog under the same KP-prefix consumable family. Verify you match air-cooled barrel to air-cooled gun body and water-cooled barrel to water-cooled gun body — they are not interchangeable.
