Product Overview
Harris Stay-Silv 5 Phos-Copper Brazing Alloy - 3/32 in (2.4 mm) - 25 lb Box - 5536R
Typical Application
Stay-Silv 5 Phos Copper filler metal is a medium-range filler metal ideal for brazing copper to copper, copper to brass, and copper to low zinc brass, particularly in situations where maintaining a close fit-up is challenging. It is more ductile than Harris 0 or Stay-Silv 2 and can be used for copper-to-copper applications, as well as copper to low zinc brass when Stay-Silv white brazing flux is applied. Stay-Silv 5 flows rapidly when heated quickly to its liquidus, allowing penetration into tight clearance connections, while slower heating provides the ability to fill wider gaps. It is an economical alternative to higher silver content filler metals for copper and brass applications, but it is not recommended for brazing steel or other ferrous base metals due to the formation of low ductility intermetallic compounds promoted by its phosphorus content. While its corrosion resistance is similar to copper base metal, it should not be used when exposed to sulfur or sulfur compounds. This product conforms to the EU Reach & RoHS directive.
Features
• Medium-range silver brazing alloy for copper-to-copper applications
• More ductile than Harris 0 or Stay-Silv 2
• A frequent choice for brazing copper as it is "self-fluxing"
• When heated quickly to its liquidus, allows penetration into tight clearance connections
• With slower heating, the alloy melting range allows the operator to fill loose connections
• Use Stay-Silv white flux to braze low-zinc brass
• Corrosion resistance is generally similar to the copper base metal, but phosphorus containing alloys, including Stay-Silv 5, should not be used if the braze is exposed to sulfur or sulfur compounds in service
• Not recommended for brazing steel or other ferrous base metals
• The phosphorus content promotes formation of a low ductility intermetallic with the base metal
• Conforms to the EU Reach & RoHS directive
