Stay-Silv 5 Phos Copper filler metal is designed for brazing copper to copper, copper to brass, and copper to low zinc brass, especially in applications where maintaining a close fit-up is challenging. This medium-range filler metal is more ductile than Harris 0 or Stay-Silv 2 and is ideal for copper-to-copper joints, but can also be used with copper to low zinc brass when Stay-Silv white brazing flux is applied. Stay-Silv 5 flows rapidly when heated quickly to its liquidus, allowing for penetration into tight clearance connections, while slower heating enables the filler metal to fill wider gaps. It is often selected as an economical alternative to higher silver content filler metals for copper and brass applications. However, it is not suitable for brazing steel or other ferrous base metals due to the phosphorus content, which may form low ductility intermetallic compounds. The corrosion resistance of Stay-Silv 5 is similar to copper base metal, but it should not be used if exposed to sulfur or sulfur compounds. This product conforms to the EU Reach & RoHS directive.
• Medium-range silver brazing alloy for copper-to-copper applications
• More ductile than Harris 0 or Stay-Silv 2
• A frequent choice for brazing copper as it is "self-fluxing"
• When heated quickly to its liquidus, allows penetration into tight clearance connections
• With slower heating, the alloy melting range allows the operator to fill loose connections
• Use Stay-Silv white flux to braze low-zinc brass
• Corrosion resistance is generally similar to the copper base metal, but phosphorus containing alloys, including Stay-Silv 5, should not be used if the braze is exposed to sulfur or sulfur compounds in service
• Not recommended for brazing steel or other ferrous base metals
• The phosphorus content promotes formation of a low ductility intermetallic with the base metal
• Complies with the EU Reach & RoHS directive
