Frequently Asked Questions

What types of accessories and tools are available in the Lincoln Electric preferred dealer accessories collection?
This broad collection covers Lincoln Electric accessories across multiple categories: welding cables and electrode holders (200A/250A/300A T-Series holders, K5150–K5156), ground/work clamps (200A, 300A, and 600A heavy-duty C-clamp options), tungsten electrodes (2% lanthanated, .020 through larger sizes), automation accessories (spindle adapters, robotic mounting brackets), wire feeder add-ons, and miscellaneous items like spool gun holders and multi-process switches. It also includes an arc gouging carbon line (CarbonElite® KP3800 series in 1/8 through 1/2 in. diameters).
How do I choose the right electrode holder amperage rating for my welding application?
Match the electrode holder rating to your welding current, not just the electrode size. Lincoln's T-Series holders are available at 200A (K5154), 250A (K5155), and 300A (K5156). For 6010/7018 stick welding at 70–110A (1/8-in. rod), a 200A holder is plenty. For continuous-use heavy stick at 250A+, step up to a 300A holder to avoid overheating. The C-clamp ground/work clamp at 600A (K5153) is designed for heavy structural and carbon arc gouging at full output.
What diameter tungsten electrodes should I stock for common TIG applications?
Lincoln Electric's 2% lanthanated tungsten (KP4721 series) is available in sizes from .020 in. through larger diameters. As a general guide: .040 in. for thin sheet and light-gauge TIG at 15–80A; 1/16 in. for general-purpose TIG at 50–150A; 3/32 in. for heavier TIG at 100–250A; and 1/8 in. for 200A+ applications. Lanthanated (gold band) tungsten works well on both AC and DC and is a versatile alternative to thoriated (red band) for shops that want to reduce radioactive material handling concerns while maintaining good arc starting and performance.
What are Lincoln CarbonElite® arc gouging electrodes, and what sizes should I keep on hand?
CarbonElite® (KP3800 series) are copper-coated DC arc gouging carbons for removing weld metal, cutting grooves, and back-gouging weld joints. Available sizes run from 1/8 in. x 12 in. (KP3800-1/8) through 1/2 in. x 14 in. (KP3800-1/2). Size selection depends on required groove width and the output current available: 1/8-in. rod runs at approximately 150–200A; 5/16-in. at approximately 450–500A; 1/2-in. at up to 800–1000A. For most fabrication shops doing occasional repair and back-gouging, stocking 3/16 in. and 5/16 in. covers the majority of applications.
Are Lincoln Electric T-Series ground clamps compatible with all welding machines?
Yes — Lincoln T-Series work clamps (K5150-1 at 200A, K5151-1 at 300A) and the heavy-duty C-clamp (K5153-1 at 600A) use standard work cable connections that fit any welding machine with a Dinse, lug, or Twist Mate connector (with appropriate adapter). The 200A and 300A T-clamps are designed for steel and painted surfaces; the 600A C-clamp provides superior contact on thick plate and is preferred for high-current gouging. Always use a work clamp rated at least equal to the maximum output current of your welding machine.
