How do I ensure a good welding ground through a rotating positioner table?
Rotating tables require a dedicated slip ring or ground ring assembly to carry weld current from the stationary machine to the rotating workpiece without creating a stray current path through the bearings. Running the weld return cable through or around the bearings without a proper slip ring will damage the bearings over time. Always use the positioner manufacturer's specified grounding assembly, and verify the current rating of the slip ring matches your maximum welding amperage.
What load capacity should I look for in a turntable positioner for my shop?
Lincoln Electric's ANNEX positioner line covers a range: the table-top 250 lb. positioner (AD1043-86) handles light assemblies, while the floor-mounted 1,500 lb. positioner (AD1043-106) is suited for heavy weldments. Beyond rated load, also check the off-center (eccentric) load rating — a 250 lb. rated table may only handle 50–100 lbs when the weight is significantly off-center.
