Are Harris regulators CGA-certified?

Yes. All Harris gas pressure regulators are designed and tested to comply with CGA E-4 (Standard for Gas Pressure Regulators) and CGA V-1 (Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections). CGA compliance ensures Harris regulators use the correct inlet fitting for each gas type — CGA-580 for argon, helium, and nitrogen; CGA-540 for oxygen; CGA-510 or CGA-300 for acetylene.

Does Harris make MIG or TIG welding machines?

No. Harris Products Group specializes in gas apparatus (regulators, torches, cutting equipment), brazing and soldering alloys, and flux — not welding power sources. For MIG and TIG welding machines, WeldingMart carries Lincoln Electric, Harris's parent company.

What is the difference between Harris Stay-Silv and Sil-Fos brazing alloys?

Harris Stay-Silv alloys are silver-bearing brazing alloys (15%–56% silver) that require flux and are used for dissimilar metal joints including copper-to-brass, copper-to-steel, and copper-to-stainless. Harris Sil-Fos alloys are copper-phosphorus-silver alloys that are self-fluxing on copper-to-copper joints. Sil-Fos must NOT be used on iron, steel, or nickel alloys as phosphorus forms brittle phosphides with ferrous metals.

What CGA fitting do I need for my gas type?

CGA-580 for argon, helium, nitrogen, and inert gas mixes; CGA-540 for oxygen; CGA-510 (POL) for acetylene cylinders; CGA-300 for acetylene manifold connections; CGA-590 for industrial air. Harris regulators are available with the correct CGA inlet for each gas family. Never use adapters to connect a regulator to the wrong gas cylinder.

When was Harris Products Group founded and who owns it?

The Harris legacy begins in 1899 with John Harris's invention of the oxy-acetylene flame-cutting torch. Harris Calorific was incorporated in 1905. Lincoln Electric merged Harris Calorific and J.W. Harris Co. into The Harris Products Group on May 1, 2006. Harris is today a wholly owned subsidiary of Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: LECO).

What brazing flux should I use with Harris alloys?

Harris Stay-Silv White Flux is an all-purpose flux for copper, brass, bronze, and mild steel brazing applications. Harris Stay-Silv Black Flux is formulated for stainless steel brazing and extended heating cycles where standard fluxes fail. Always remove flux residue completely after brazing — it is corrosive and will degrade joints if left in place.

Are Harris products compatible with Victor torch equipment?

Harris cutting tips and torch components are designed to Harris specifications and are not universally interchangeable with other brands without verification. Harris one-piece NX tips (6290 Series) are Harris-specific. Harris two-piece tips in the 1700 and 1800 Series are compatible with a broader range of torch bodies. Harris regulators use standard CGA inlet connections compatible with any cylinder of the matching gas type regardless of torch brand.

Can I buy Lincoln Electric welders and Harris gas equipment together at WeldingMart?

Yes. WeldingMart carries both the full Lincoln Electric welding equipment lineup and the complete Harris gas equipment and brazing alloy catalog. Since Harris Products Group is a wholly owned Lincoln Electric subsidiary, the two product lines are engineered to work together — Harris regulators and torch outfits pair directly with Lincoln Electric MIG, TIG, and engine-driven welders. You can spec and order both brands in a single transaction at WeldingMart.

What Is Harris Products Group?

Harris Products Group is a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of products used in brazing, soldering, welding, cutting, heating, and gas control. The company traces its origins to 1899, when inventor John Harris discovered the oxy-acetylene cutting method while conducting research on synthetic rubies — accidentally cutting through the metal plate beneath, he had invented the world's first flame-cutting torch. Harris exhibited that torch at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair and founded the Harris Calorific Company in 1905. From that founding breakthrough, Harris went on to register many industry firsts: the first swaged cutting tips, the first multi-stage pressure regulators, the first gaugeless regulators, and the first safety torch and regulator check valves. (Project Suppliers — Harris History)

Meanwhile, in 1914, Joseph W. Harris Sr. founded the J.W. Harris Company, initially serving the automotive and farm equipment repair trades. J.W. Harris expanded aggressively into brazing and soldering alloys — developing many of the phosphorus-copper and silver-bearing brazing alloys that remain industry standards to this day. Lincoln Electric acquired Harris Calorific from Emerson Electric in 1990, then acquired the privately held J.W. Harris Co. in 2005. On May 1, 2006, Lincoln Electric merged the two businesses into a single entity — The Harris Products Group — combining over a century of gas equipment expertise with decades of brazing alloy metallurgy under one roof. (Manufacturing Today — Harris Products Group)

Today, Harris Products Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Lincoln Electric Company, operating manufacturing facilities in Mason, Ohio; Georgia; California; Poland; Mexico; Brazil; and Italy. Harris products are distributed in over 90 countries and are specified by OEM manufacturers in HVAC/R, aerospace, automotive, plumbing, and industrial fabrication. At WeldingMart, we are an authorized Harris dealer carrying the full product range — regulators, torch outfits, cutting tips, brazing alloys, flux, and specialty gas equipment — backed by same-day shipping on orders placed before 3 PM Central Time.

How to Choose Harris Products — by Application

Harris builds across four major application domains. Matching your application to the right Harris product line is the first step to getting the right result.

1. Brazing — Joining Copper, Brass, and Dissimilar Metals

Brazing uses a filler metal melted above 840°F (450°C) but below the base metal's melting point, drawn into the joint by capillary action. Harris offers three families of brazing alloys:

Stay-Silv (Silver Brazing Alloys): Silver-bearing alloys in 15%, 40%, 45%, 50%, and 56% silver content. Used for copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, copper-to-steel, and dissimilar metal joints. Require Harris Stay-Silv flux. Classified to AWS A5.8 / ASTM B260. Best choice for HVAC/R refrigerant lines, plumbing, and aerospace applications where joint strength and leak-free performance are critical.
Sil-Fos / Stay-Silv Phos-Copper (Phosphorus-Copper Alloys): Self-fluxing on copper-to-copper joints — no separate flux required. Copper-phosphorus alloys with 0%, 2%, and 15% silver content (Sil-Fos 0, Sil-Fos 2, Sil-Fos 15). Widely used in refrigeration line fabrication, electrical bus-bar brazing, and plumbing. Do NOT use on iron, steel, or nickel-bearing alloys — phosphorus embrittles ferrous joints.
Safety-Silv (High-Silver Alloys): Premium alloys at 50% and 56% silver content for demanding joint geometries, close-tolerance work, and applications requiring maximum ductility and vibration resistance. Available in rod, wire, and flux-coated strip. Cadmium-free formulations available.

2. Soldering — Low-Temperature Metal Joining

Harris soldering alloys operate below 840°F (450°C). Applications include copper plumbing (water and gas lines), electronic assemblies, and light-duty metal joining. Harris ECO Smart flux and Harris tin-silver alloys are used where lead-free compliance (RoHS/NSF) is required for potable water systems. Choose soldering alloys when base metal distortion from brazing heat is a concern, or when service temperatures will remain below 200°F.

3. Cutting — Oxy-Fuel Flame Cutting

Harris is a foundational manufacturer of oxy-fuel cutting equipment — a heritage that goes back to the 1899 invention of the flame-cutting torch. Harris cutting torch outfits include torch handles, cutting attachments, oxygen and fuel gas regulators, hose sets, and cutting tips. Harris cutting tips are available in one-piece NX design (Harris 6290 Series) and two-piece design compatible with a range of torch handles. Harris cuts mild steel from light gauge sheet through heavy structural plate (6-inch and beyond with appropriate tip size). Key products for cutting applications: Harris 43 Series torch handles, Harris 62 Series heavy-duty cutting attachments, Harris 6290 NX cutting tips, and Harris 25GX and 3000 Series regulators. For machine cutting and automated oxy-fuel systems, Harris offers 98 Series machine cutting torches compatible with track burners and CNC oxy-fuel tables.

4. Gas Regulation — Shielding Gas, Specialty Gas, and Oxy-Fuel Pressure Control

Frequently Asked Questions — Harris Products Group

Are Harris regulators CGA-certified?: Yes. All Harris gas pressure regulators are designed and tested to comply with CGA E-4 (Standard for Gas Pressure Regulators) and CGA V-1 (Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections). CGA compliance ensures that Harris regulators use the correct inlet fitting for each gas type — CGA-580 for argon, helium, and nitrogen; CGA-540 for oxygen; CGA-510 or CGA-300 for acetylene; CGA-580 for argon/CO₂ mixes. This is a safety standard, not just a quality mark — mismatched regulators and cylinders cannot physically connect in correctly manufactured CGA fittings.
Does Harris make MIG or TIG welding machines?: No. Harris Products Group does not manufacture MIG welders, TIG welders, or stick welding power sources. Harris specializes in gas apparatus (regulators, torches, cutting equipment), brazing and soldering alloys, and flux. For MIG and TIG welding machines, WeldingMart carries Lincoln Electric — Harris's parent company — across the full range of Lincoln Electric MIG, TIG, and multi-process welders. Harris products integrate with Lincoln Electric machines: Harris shielding gas regulators connect to your Lincoln Electric MIG or TIG welder's shielding gas inlet just like any other CGA-580 regulator.
What is the difference between Harris Stay-Silv and Sil-Fos brazing alloys?: Harris Stay-Silv alloys are silver-bearing brazing alloys (15%–56% silver) that require a separate brazing flux and are used for dissimilar metal joints — copper-to-brass, copper-to-steel, copper-to-stainless — as well as copper-to-copper where higher joint strength is needed. Harris Sil-Fos alloys are copper-phosphorus-silver alloys (0%–15% silver) that are self-fluxing on copper-to-copper joints due to the phosphorus content acting as a deoxidizer. Sil-Fos should never be used on iron, steel, or nickel alloys — phosphorus forms brittle phosphides with these metals. Use Sil-Fos only on copper-to-copper; use Stay-Silv (with flux) for all other metal combinations.
What CGA fitting do I need for my gas type?: CGA fittings are gas-specific by design. The standard connections are: CGA-580 for argon, helium, nitrogen, argon/CO₂ mixes, and most inert gases; CGA-540 for oxygen; CGA-510 (POL) for acetylene cylinders; CGA-300 for acetylene manifold connections; CGA-590 for industrial air; CGA-326 for nitrous oxide. Harris regulators are available in the appropriate CGA inlet for each gas family. Never use adapters to mate a regulator to the wrong gas cylinder — this is a serious safety hazard and violates CGA standards.
When was Harris Products Group founded and who owns it?: The Harris legacy begins in 1899 with John Harris's invention of the oxy-acetylene flame-cutting torch. Harris Calorific was formally incorporated in 1905. Lincoln Electric acquired Harris Calorific in 1990 and acquired J.W. Harris Co. in 2005. The two companies were officially merged into The Harris Products Group on May 1, 2006. Harris Products Group is today a wholly owned subsidiary of Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: LECO), headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. Harris manufacturing operations span the United States, Europe, and South America. (Manufacturing Today)
What brazing flux should I use with Harris alloys?: Harris offers two primary flux products for brazing. Harris Stay-Silv White Flux is an all-purpose brazing flux for copper, brass, bronze, and mild steel applications — it is suitable for use with Stay-Silv silver alloys and Sil-Fos alloys when brazing copper to materials other than bare copper. Harris Stay-Silv Black Flux is a high-temperature flux formulated for stainless steel brazing, where the chromium oxide layer on stainless resists standard fluxes. Black Flux is also used for extended heating cycles and long-duration heating applications. Always remove flux residue completely after brazing — brazing flux is corrosive and will degrade joints and base metal if left in place.
Are Harris products compatible with Victor torch equipment?: Harris cutting tips, torch handles, and regulators are designed to Harris specifications and are not universally interchangeable with Victor (now Lincoln Electric oxy-fuel brand) torch components without verification of thread type and tip series. Harris one-piece NX tips (6290 Series) are Harris-specific. Harris two-piece tips in the 1700 and 1800 Series are compatible with a broader range of torch bodies including some Victor series. Harris regulators use standard CGA inlet connections, so any Harris regulator with the correct CGA inlet will connect to any compatible cylinder of that gas type regardless of torch brand. Contact WeldingMart's technical support to confirm tip and torch compatibility before ordering.
Can I buy Lincoln Electric welders and Harris gas equipment together at WeldingMart?: Yes.
