About Harris 6013

Harris 6013 is an AWS A5.1 E6013 rutile-coated all-polarity SMAW electrode with 60 ksi minimum tensile, designed for easy-to-strike, smooth-running general fabrication on light-to-medium plate and sheet. The high-titania coating produces a quiet arc, easy slag removal, and excellent appearance, making Harris 6013 the standard learner-friendly and light-fabrication electrode. Runs on AC, DC+, or DC- in all positions on small machines and farm buzzboxes.

Questions about this package
Is this the same electrode as the parent Harris 6013 grade, just in a different package?

Yes. SKU 60135010 is the same AWS A5.1/A5.1M E6013 classification as every other size in the Harris 6013 family. The only difference is diameter (3/32 in) and package format (10 lb box). Polarity, position, and tensile properties are identical to the parent grade.

How many rods are in this 10 lb box?

Approximately ~94 rods. Exact count varies with manufacturing tolerance but a 10 lb box of 3/32 in Harris 6013 typically contains in this range.

What is the shelf life if I do not use them all?

Sealed containers store indefinitely in a dry environment. These are not low-hydrogen electrodes, so atmospheric exposure tolerance is much higher than E7018-class rods - avoid extended damp storage, but routine workshop humidity does not affect performance.

What diameter should I use for common applications?

3/32 in is well-suited for sheet metal, thin plate, and light fabrication in all positions. Heavier base metal and higher deposition typically calls for one diameter up; thinner sheet and root passes go one diameter down. See the parent grade page for full diameter-to-amperage guidance.

Can I mix this size with other diameters on the same job?

Yes, provided your procedure qualification (WPS) covers the diameter range. Many shops use one diameter for root, one for fill, and one for cap. All sizes within Harris 6013 share identical mechanical properties (AWS A5.1/A5.1M E6013) so weld metal chemistry is consistent across passes.

Do I need to rebake these after the can is opened?

No. Cellulosic and rutile coatings are not low-hydrogen and do not require the rebake discipline of E7018-class electrodes. Keep them dry in normal storage; if the coating becomes visibly damp, redry at 200-275 F before use.

Does this size require a special holder or stinger?

Use an electrode holder rated for the amperage range above (50-90 A). Most general-purpose stinger holders (e.g. 300-500 A class) handle 3/32 in Harris 6013 without issue. For sustained high-amperage runs on larger diameters, a 500 A or higher holder is recommended.

Is this Buy America compliant?

This specific SKU is not the Buy America variant. Harris 6013 may be available in a Buy America compliant version - see the parent grade page for all available compliance variants.
