Lincoln Electric SuperArc® LA-100 is a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) solid MIG wire classified AWS A5.28 ER100S-G, providing a minimum 100,000 psi tensile strength weld deposit for welding quenched-and-tempered and HSLA steels that demand maximum filler metal strength. This listing is the 0.045" diameter, 33 lb spool (ED031417) — a versatile production format for defense, construction equipment, and structural applications on the highest-strength base metals.

SuperArc LA-100 (AWS A5.28 ER100S-G) is Lincoln's solid wire for the demanding end of the HSLA spectrum. It is the go-to filler for base metals with yield strengths in the 90–110 ksi range, where lower-strength wires would be undermatched per code requirements.
- ASTM A514 (T-1) fabrication: A514 quenched-and-tempered steel requires matching or over-matching filler metal. ER100S-G is a standard choice for structural and equipment applications on A514 plate.
- Military and defense: HY-100 and HSLA-100 steels used in armored vehicles, naval vessels, and military structures require high-strength, high-toughness filler metals. LA-100 meets the demanding mechanical property requirements for these applications.
- Heavy lifting and construction equipment: Crane booms, outrigger pads, excavator arms, and high-strength structural members on mobile cranes and lifting equipment where weight reduction requires higher-strength steel with matching welds.
- Offshore and subsea structures: High-strength steel components in offshore platforms, topside structures, and subsea manifolds where weld metal strength and CVN toughness are specified at low temperatures.
- High-strength pressure vessels: ASME Sec. VIII pressure vessels fabricated from high-strength low-alloy materials requiring over-matching filler metal per design code.
SuperArc LA-100 is the right wire when the base metal minimum tensile strength exceeds approximately 90 ksi, or when the applicable code (AWS D1.1, ASME Sec. IX, MIL-STD) specifies a 100 ksi class filler metal. Do not use LA-100 on standard mild steel (A36, A572 Gr. 50) — the higher alloy content of the wire is unnecessary and may increase sensitivity to hydrogen-induced cracking if preheat procedures are not followed precisely.
If your base metal requires only 90 ksi class filler, SuperArc LA-90 (EDS30776, ER90S-G) is adequate and available in a larger 44 lb spool. For moderate-strength structural work, SuperArc L-56 (ER70S-6) covers A36 and most A572 applications at lower cost.
