What is the AWS classification of the Lincoln Lincolnweld 316/316LCF Submerged Arc SAW Welding Wire?

The Lincoln Lincolnweld 316/316LCF Submerged Arc SAW Welding Wire carries AWS ER316 classification. In SAW, the wire/flux combination determines the weld deposit chemistry and mechanical properties — the wire class and flux class are always specified together. Always verify the flux is approved for use with this wire in your Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).

Q: What diameter is the Lincoln Lincolnweld 316/316LCF Submerged Arc SAW Welding Wire available in?

Common SAW wire diameters range from 5/64 in to 7/32 in. Smaller diameter wire (5/64, 3/32 in) suits lower heat-input applications, tight-groove work, and thinner plate. Larger diameter wire (5/32, 3/16, 7/32 in) maximizes deposition rate for heavy plate and multi-pass structural welds. Consult the wire manufacturer's parameter chart for amperage, voltage, and travel speed by diameter.

Q: What spool or coil size is the Lincoln Lincolnweld 316/316LCF Submerged Arc SAW Welding Wire available in?

SAW wire is supplied in various coil weights from 25 lb coils to 600 lb reels, depending on the wire diameter and supplier. Heavy production SAW systems use large coils (300–600 lb) to minimize wire change-over time. Ensure your SAW wire feeder head is configured for the specific coil diameter and weight of the product ordered.

Q: How should I store the Lincoln Lincolnweld 316/316LCF Submerged Arc SAW Welding Wire to maintain weld quality?

Store SAW wire in a clean, dry environment. Surface rust on SAW wire can introduce hydrogen into the weld deposit, increasing the risk of porosity and cold cracking in susceptible base materials. Lightly rusted wire can sometimes be cleaned with a dry cloth, but wire with heavy surface oxidation should be discarded. Keep wire coils sealed in their original packaging until ready for use and store at controlled room temperature with low humidity.
