Recommended Applications

Techalloy 625 (AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-3) is the industry-standard filler for alloy 625 base metal and for joining nickel alloys to stainless or carbon steels where superior corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength are critical. It is widely specified in oil and gas, aerospace, chemical, and marine engineering.

  • Inconel 625 and nickel alloy fabrication: Matched filler for UNS N06625 base metal. Provides tensile strength exceeding 100 ksi with excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
  • Dissimilar metal joints: ERNiCrMo-3 is a preferred buffer layer and overlay material when joining carbon steel or low-alloy steel to austenitic stainless or nickel alloys — widely used in cladding restoration and pressure vessel construction.
  • Chemical processing equipment: Resistance to a broad range of acids (hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, nitric, phosphoric) makes 625 filler appropriate for reactor vessels, piping, and heat exchangers in aggressive chemical environments.
  • Aerospace and high-temperature service: Retains mechanical properties and oxidation resistance up to approximately 1800°F (982°C), qualifying it for gas turbine components, exhaust systems, and combustion hardware.
  • Marine and offshore: Outstanding seawater corrosion resistance makes Techalloy 625 suitable for propeller shafts, rudder components, offshore risers, and subsea hardware.
Selection Guide

Techalloy 625 is the correct choice when your base metal is alloy 625, when a dissimilar weld requires a nickel-rich buffer against hydrogen-induced or galvanic corrosion, or when service temperatures or chemical exposure exceed the limits of austenitic stainless filler metals.

If your application involves alloy 825 (UNS N08825) or similar iron-nickel-chromium alloys, consider Techalloy 65 (ERNiFeCr-1). For welding C-276 (Hastelloy® C-276) to itself, ERNiCrMo-4 is the matched filler, though ERNiCrMo-3 is frequently acceptable as a cross-over option per applicable codes. Consult your material supplier and applicable code (ASME Section IX, AWS D1.6, NACE MR0175) before finalizing filler selection.

The 33 lb spool is suited for production GMAW operations. For lower-volume shops or GTAW (TIG) applications, Techalloy 625 is also available in cut-length rod form. Browse Lincoln Electric specialty alloy wire options at our MIG Wire collection.
