The Lincoln Tech-Rod 317L Stick (SMAW) Welding Rod is an extra-low carbon molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel SMAW electrode classified to AWS A5.4/A5.4M E317L-16. The 317L alloy — 19% Cr, 12% Ni, 3.5% Mo, 0.03% max C — delivers superior corrosion resistance compared to 304L and 316L electrodes, particularly in chloride, sulfurous, and other aggressive environments. It is the electrode of choice for chemical process equipment, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper applications requiring maximum pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.

- Higher Mo than 316L for superior chloride/pitting resistance
Chemical process equipment, pulp and paper industry, pharmaceutical processing, marine environments, and food processing where superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing media is required. Used to weld Type 317L, 317, and related high-Mo austenitic stainless steels.
- AWS E317L-16 — 3.5% Mo for maximum chloride and pitting corrosion resistance
- Extra-low carbon (0.03% max) prevents sensitization as-welded
- Superior to 316L in aggressive chloride and sulfurous media
- All-position capability with smooth arc and easy slag removal
- Available in 3/32, 1/8, and 5/32 in diameters
- Compatible with DC+ or AC power sources
